I Wrote A Book!

As followers of my Twitter will know, my life has been nothing short of busy over the last few days. Just as I’m trying to adjust to life as a stay-at-home mum, I decided to announce the project I’ve been working on for a while now – my book, “The Speed Bump”, coming soon to Amazon Kindle – and have done not one, but two radio interviews. The first, for BBC Radio 5 Live, was part of a discussion about the best age to be a mum, and I spoke a little about my experiences as a younger mum. The second, with BBC Radio Wales, was about my blog, the book and the experience I’ve had of balancing parenting with study. I’ll link to both programmes at the end of the post so you can take a listen for yourselves!

So I should probably give a little more information about the book. It’s a pregnancy guide for young parents-to-be. It sounds like a niche audience (and yep, it probably is), but most of the advice in there applies to parents-to-be too. Even if you’re not a parent, and have no intention of becoming one soon, you’ll benefit from some of the handy guides – including ‘What not to say to a pregnant woman’ – and chapters exposing the brutal, honest truth about morning sickness, pregnancy insomnia, placentas and The Waddle. If you’ve ever wanted to peek inside the mind of a hormonal, pregnant young woman, then The Speed Bump is the book for you – because I’m practically opening the door and inviting you in!

In the future, I’ll follow it up with a parenting guide. I considered combining the two, but the pregnancy guide is already so long, I don’t want to make reading it a marathon effort! Some chapters and guides are specific to being a young parent or student parent-to-be – study tips, maintaining friendships when you’re the first to have a baby and so on – but the majority are applicable to all pregnant women. It includes many excerpts from the early days of the blog, including my ‘brutally honest’ version of the ‘Emma’s Diary’ magazine.

So if you feel like the normal pregnancy guides about longed-for, much awaited pregnancies don’t quite apply to you – or you’re sick of guides that witter on about the magic of pregnancy – or you just like reading about someone else suffering, ‘The Speed Bump: What To Expect When You’re (Unexpectedly) Expecting’ is the book for you!

I’ll have links coming as soon as the book is available to buy on Kindle and the free Kindle app for smartphones and tablets!
